Artist's Comments

A rather young Phantom wallowing in his own barely bridled rage. This would be during the Persia period of Kay's novel, although, as I like to imagine it, Erik wore a full mask through his youth. As he grew into adulthood, he would have shed the emotional baggage of a full mask, which would be reminiscient of his horrible childhood, and adopted the unconventional half-mask. Therefore, Ta-da! Nutshell explanation, unifying two theories of the mask. let me stress again that this is just what I like to use for reason, not that it's the end-all, be-all backstory.

thats creative, nice work.

Wonderful. And I love the theory about the mask. It's possible and sounds like a very Erik-ish thing to do.
The way the hair falls over his face is great.

Love the expression on his face - looks like he's about to punjab the viewer for intruding upon a moment of solitude. The coloring is very smooth and atmospheric and your detail for anatomy and foreshortening is excellent. :)

the detail on this amazing piece of work featuring our hero, Erik, is simply awe-inspiring. i love the expression and the mood. it expresses so much emotion, yet does not use words.

the mask theory does sound very Erik-ish.

Even the ugly deserve to be loved.

Wow, now that's a compliment. My foreshortening is normally terrible!::laughs:: Thank you.

Thank you. I wanted the impression that it was wet without drawing in Sin City styled rain...because that would promt me to make it a panel in a sequential piece and frankly I barely had enough time to put out a one shot.

*grins* I give comments where they are merited - though I must admit I do sense a certain Hogarthian influence? ;)
