Actually, this piece was inspired by the original artist of DC comics reinvisioning of the character Starman in that he has this beautifully telling way of captuiring emotion via tight closeups of a body part and the face of the offender. I had hoped to pay homage.
In this case, I imagine that Le Fantome and his young lady love have just been in the midst of a rather heated argument. The encounter was most certainly not intended to end so badly considering the fact that Erik has brought a gift ,the red rose, which has pricked his hand and caused trickles of blood signifying love and pain...I know, I know...very obvious symbolism, but please bear with me.
I am not partucularly satisfied with it at all. The scan highlighted too much of the yellows, which for some reason look blended in the actual drawing. Also, Erik's knuckles are waaay out of proportion.
