1880's Bustle Dress Back by Opergeist 1880's Bustle Dress Back by Opergeist
The final Product of my Costume Production Class. The assignment was to faithfully reproduce an existing 19th century garment in comparable modern fabrics.

So, I decided that this would be a prime opportunity to create an entire look for my lovely girlfriend Re to be worn at DragonCon 2009 as my übergoth Christine.

The bodice, hat and dress itself is made of shadowstriped satin trimmed in hand pleated tartan striped red taffeta with a cotton leopard print lining (not pictured).

Distance prohibited her appearing in this Photoshoot, so my lovely model is Laurel Schultz, a fabulous fellow costume designer and Victorian Goth for a day.

Seriously, every picture I see of this dress just makes me love it even more!! :D You have some serious skills to be able to reproduce a period dress so beautifully (and even add a more modern touch like leopard print lining, lol!).

Thank you very much! It was certainly a daunting project, but it pays off every time I see my girl wear it.

Thanks very much! I really love this one. The skirt will be seen at the Steampunk World's Fair this year.

Awesome! Where does that take place? I'm guessing it's far away from NJ since everything awesome is far away from me :(

Hhmm . . . I don't know what sort of picture to ask for!
Uuhhmm . . . how about . . . oh! Do you know of the Hades and Persephone myth? If not, you could google it. The story is so romantic! I was wondering, if the Greek gods wore Victorian-like clothes, how would Persephone, queen of the underworld, look?

A good question.
If you are serious about a commission, please send me a private message. I'd be happy to whip something up.

I just realized that I epically failed to reply to your email with the pictures of this dress... Go me! ::sheepish look::

Anyways, well done sir! This dress looks fabulous!! The pleating looks lurverly, (I'm kicking myself extra hard for being too lazy to do that on my bustle dress. ;)) and the fabric textures are awesome. And you know, kickass design per usual.

Also, hat = adorable. I want to steal it.

No worries! We're busy people!

Thanks a bunch! It should be grand sauntering around DragonCon this year. Are you and Poptart still planning something vaguely steampunk? If so, we should Victorian up together.

The hat has gone through some changes since these photos were made. Re made her own half veil out of dotted netting and added red pheasant feathers and a rose finding to the band. The mourning veil was dispensed with in favor of showing off her spiky hair.

You'll like her :: grin :: She's fiesty.

Technically, I think we are, realistically, I would be shocked if we got around to it... Too much procrastination between the two of us. =P We'll probably be very lucky to get Bastilla/Revan & skanky Star Trek girls for Amy & Kim done. And Katie's epic armor. ~amused look~ I want to do something else, but whatever. There's always next year!

I'm totally excited about meeting your super-hot-feisty girlfriend. ^^

I'm making a trip back to Boston to fetch more supplies for my Con stuff. Stupid me didn't bother to pack my smoking jacket stuff. Bleh.
Dude, whatever y'all do will be awesome!

I'm so happy that you'll finally get to meet her. She's definitely good people.
